Glenn J. Wentz, age 71, resident of Ganges died Friday, November 30, 2012 at his home following an extended illness.
Born September 19, 1941 in Shelby to the late Donald and Jane (Edwards) Wentz he had been an area resident most of his life. A 1959 graduate of Shelby High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Mediterranean from 1960 to 1964.
Glenn was employed with the Shelby Mutual Insurance Company, Greensboro, North Carolina then transferred to the home office in Shelby, Ohio. He was self-employed with Wentz Builder's then in 1983 worked with the Richland County Sheriff's Office as a Sergeant until his retirement in 2008.
He was an Eagle Scout at the age of 14, Troop 2 out of Shelby First Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Shelby First Lutheran Church his entire life, Shiloh American Legion, Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F&AM, Shelby Royal Arch Masons #178, and the Al Koran Shrine. Glenn enjoyed tinkering in his workshop.
Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, Jean (Arnold) Wentz and Atalaya Pierce; his daughter, Lisa (Wentz) married to Mike Steiner of Hilliard and their children, Christina, Jennifer, and Brice Steiner; one son, James and Tammy (Smith) Wentz of Shelby and their son, Cole Wentz; one step-son, Ryan and Janelle (Fisher) Roub of Plymouth and their children, Ella and Avery Roub; one step-daughter, Heather Roub and fiancé, LaMarr Rhoades of Shelby and her children, Mikayla and Brayden Carpenter; and his Aunt Eleanor (Wentz) Sheehe of Napa Valley, California.
As per Glenn's wishes, private memorial services are pending. Memorial expressions may be made to the Trinity Shining Lights Preschool, 209 E. Main St., Shelby, OH 44875.
