Ralph E. Hayes, Jr., age 58, former Shelby resident, died February 13, 1996, in Integrated Health Services, New London, following a lingering illness. Born April 26, 1937 in Toronto, OH to Ralph & Margaret (Swartz) Hayes, Sr. he had been an Ashland resident prior to moving to Shelby in 1972. In 1984 he returned to live in Toronto where he resided at 204 Belle Ave. Mr. Hayes was the owner/operater of Hoffman's Shoe Store in Shelby from 1972-1983 and had also worked with Reese's Manufacturing in Stratton, Ohio. He was a former member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Shelby Knights of Columbus, and the Shelby Athletic Club. Mr. Hayes was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include: one son, Perry Hayes of Shelby; two daughters & sons-in-law, Juliana & Brian Friebel of Shelby; Debbie & Jeff McCarty of Shelby; one grandson, Jeremy Friebel; his mother, Margaret Hayes of Toronto; three brothers, Bill Hayes, Kenny Hayes, and Gary Hayes all of Toronto; two sisters, Joan Hayes and Margie Sines both of Toronto; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hayes in 1983; his father, Ralph Hayes, Sr.; and one sister, Linda Allison.

Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Friday from the Barkdull Funeral Home. Father John C. Missler will officiate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 3-5 & 7-9PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Central Ohio Diabetes Assoc., 1803 W.
